Warren Tavern opens.
1780
Built by Capt. Eliphelet Newell, it is located at today’s 2 Pleasant Street. The oldest tavern at the same location in Boston, it is one of the first buildings constructed after the British burned down much of Charlestown, and is subsequently renamed for Gen. Joseph Warren. Patrons include Paul Revere and George Washington. The building is enlarged in 1786, renovated in 1972, and continues in business today.
